Based only on the post you are referring to and not having any other knowledge of the situation, the reason why that guy is basically having is car rebuilt is because it sounds like the techs don't know what's wrong with the car. If there were that many problems with the car, Chrylser would (should) just replace the whole motor. But if they are going piece by piece, it sounds like they they have no clue what's wrong. The whole part about the crank shaft being the next possible target leads me to believe that poster is dealing with incompetence at the dealer level.
I have had no problems with my car (though it's a 2008 I bought new and has 6k miles on it now), but I suspect that the biggest issue for the crossfire is being able to find a technician who can accurately diagnose (forget fixing it, just diagnosing it will be the issue) the problem. So one of the best properties of the crossfire IMO (the mercedes heritage and german assembly) is also the worst property of the car. If benz gave chrysler just the chassis, suspension, and brakes and chrysler was responsible for the motor, transmission, and electronics the car would probably be much easier to maintain (and probably be a bit faster than it is with the benz motor).
