Default More newb questions

My head was spinning after reading the NW SuperCooler thread so here I go spouting off to show just how little I understand and know about the subject but I have so many questions I can't resist:

1- I'm used to turbo cars which have intercoolers not "heat exchangers". From Brian's diagram it lists both an intercooler AND a heat exchanger- do our cars have both?!

2- What is the difference between a "heat exchanger" and an intercooler?

3- I recently had my Johnson pump installed, and the shop added extra coolant after the install. However after inspecting our coolant reservoir how in the world are you supposed to know what your level is- the reservoir is completely opaque?!

4- How do I know that the pump is functioning other than the fact the car is not overheating. Speaking of which would a non-functioning pump actually manifest itself in the temp gauge or simply shut off the SC.

5- The fluid running through the heat exchanger is standard engine coolant- the same as used by the radiator? I read mention of separating them? How and Why?- to keep the heat exchanger coolant temps down?
