I helped build a Tesla coil back in high school, after school hours (when we'd use $5.00 worth of nitric acid to melt pennies to the size of dimes & then use them in pay phones. Big fun when your 16 & it's 1970!) when we could 'experiment' with it.
I may still have the scars.........

Actually, I think your last "invention" might just be the trick for my job. I'd love to move one of those into my tiny workspace, plop in it & then disappear into my own little world; kinda like Al Bundy used to do when he went "on vacation".
