FJ - Vandalism is Comprehensive coverage and a comp claim should NOT affect your insurance rate. If you have a 1000$ deductible on comp you should look into lowering it. Comp is usually not that expensive to have a lower deductible. You need to discuss this with your agent. He/she should advise you the proper thing to do.
