I just grasped the pulley by the grooved surface. Next I shook my hand up and down then side to side while tapping lightly on the rear edge of the pulley with a plastic dead blow hammer. It eventually slid off. I had to use the same jiggling motion to put the new one on.
That is what I did too, mine came off and went on easy though. I think it took me about 5 minutes for the swap so I was lucky.
You can use a little bit of WD40 in there to help get it off just be sure to wipe it off good when you get the pulley out of there.
