Re: speaker setup in teh XFi?
As you guys may have already noticed, "Bens" is a small specialty shop - as a result I can't carry every line out there. Alpine is excellent quality product but with the way it is distributed I can't justify the 'buy in' untill a point where I can move more product - particularly o.t.c. sales. Don't get me wrong - if a particular piece of electronics is right for a customer, even though I don't carry it, I'll still find a way to get it to him( I just might not make anything on it !) . Given that our niche is high end, 'non invasive' installation, often times we will use the factory head unit & interface it (using navone components) to aftermarket amplification, then upgrade the stock speaker locations with upscale (mb quart, alumipro, focal, etc.,) replacements, finishing up with a custom fitted sub enclsure and a welded steel or aluminum racking system to mount the components to factory fasteners already in the car. Taking this aproach you can upgrade the system to whatever level (or cost) you desire. We did an x-fire last month just upgrading the head unit to a pioneer avic-n1, but on mine I think we will keep the stock cd and route sattelite radio through the changer port. I'm leaning toward using mb quart amps and quart or alumipro front speakers. I may build a rear speaker location into the top 'shoulder' locations in a rear firing enclosure. For woofers it will be hard to sway me from a pair of kicker L 7 tens. as I get closer to a start date I'll finalize the design. I think it would be cool to do it over time as kind of a documentary and show pictures and explain procedures on the forum? Ben
