More important than what brand you use is to stick with it.
Mixing the addstives every oil change defeats the purpose and may actually cause a "hybrid" of build up.
Same applies for gasoline. Stick with one brand at lease for 5000 miles worth driving - and if you switch say with that brand for the same time..
This will keep the oil and fuel systems clean.

I think that you do have a point but if you make a switch once or twice it essentially comes down to splitting hairs.
However if you use a crappy brand of oil or gas, your fuel and oil systems will get clean when you make the swith to a good brand!
