I tried that design with both baseline serifs and it made the "X" a little too squatty in the oval, a bit too top heavy also. The starting brush stroke balances the top of the design. It's also designed to fill up as much negative space without the Crossfire type. Believe me I spent a lot of time thinking of all the possibilities, probably went through about 50 versions to get these 6. It's more of a stylized version of an "X". But I do appreciate the input.
