In my opinion Americans {Canadian’s too} went down the slippery slope of second world status when they bought, like lemmings, into the myth that Toyota and Honda had the only cars to buy, due to perceived quality. This left few if any of the profit dollars staying to provide jobs. To hide the deterioration we went into sub prime mortgages to give the illusion of wealth.
The house of cards has now crumbled and yet few see that not supporting local [North American] business has been the creation of our present situation.
