Default Thought I had a valve cover leak, but...

Last week I started smelling the unmistakable scent of oil on an exhaust manifold when I would come to a stop. Once when I stopped, enough smoke came up from under the hood to look like I blew the engine.

I started looking for the usual causes and, sure enough, I could see considerable oil on the driver's side of the engine in the valve cover area. Since it is still in warranty I took it to a dealer (Dallas Dodge) to have them look at it.

As it turns out, it was not a valve cover leak (although they did reseal both side covers in the process). It was the oil cooler return line (part #50997288AA). I guess that explains why it came on so suddenly.

I don't recall hearing of this problem before. Has it happened to anyone else?
