Sounds like what happens when the IC Pump fails, but that generally doesn't manifest unless the car is warm. If the sensor was having issues it could happen at any time. It could be intermittently shutting down the S/C.

Couldn't moisture in the fuel line or Throttle body also cause some hesitation issues?
It felt like more than the SC. If the SC would cut out there would be a loss of power but not enough to make the car jolt/lurch like that. Maybe moisture was the cause, like you said in the throttle body or fuel line. As it was raining for several days and I don't have a garage to shield my car.

If it was the latter is that something that has already resolved itself (ie no permanent damage).

PS I drove it today and it drove like a champ!
