Default Re: Safe to drive in the rain with a NW CAI?

You are unlikely to get Hydro lock with a CAI. what you may get is interference wth the MAS. Any water that gets past the filter element will be mist and will effect the MAS as the fluid acts different than the air.

My unit from Eurocharged is in the fender well where the IC pump is located on SRT's. It had issues in heavy rain as the vertical piping would develope a water bubble. I put a plastic garden drain grill under the filter element and have had no issues since.

My deluge thru Nashville where, at 60 MPH, I ran thru a puddle over my axles proved the system is safe from hydro lock. The water tore the access door off but the engine ran fine. I imagine to get hydro lock you would need at least a 50% volume/ratio of water to air. In other words a solid wave of water. The NW are high enough, this is unlikely. But the socks work well and would prevent it.

If you do get a MAS interference issue, it would be during high acceleration. The the worst you might see is an engine light and rough running. Shut down, disconect the battery for a few seconds and it will right itself.

My experience anyway.
