I just wanted to bump this post (which I think is the first time this fix appeared) and to thank shawfire for sharing this elegant, simple and highly effective fix with us all.
I'd been through the TSB for a rattling hatch and adjusted the rubber stops appropriately, but the hatch would still rattle when I was driving on rough roads.
Then I saw a mention of shawfire's electrical tape method, tracked down this thread, wrapped my striker bar with a few wraps of electrical tape and my rattle is gone on even the roughest roads.
So, thank you to shawfire and thank you to the forum!
