Default Re: for smoking people

I think they should legalize...oh, right....cigarettes...tax the crap out of them. I went cold turkey 10 years ago and haven't have one since.

Oh, and for the folks looking to politicize this, when any campaigning politician promises "not to raise taxes", they are generally talking about income taxes. Taxes on individual items like tobacco and alcohol typically don't fall under a "not raining taxes" campaign pledge. Aside from that point, the increase being discussed here was proposed in congress in the middle of 2008. It's also a politically and socially popular tax to increase. Smoking is, by all mean, a disgusting habit and also happens to kill you. The number of smokers is also steadily declining. Getting a tax increase on tobacco products passed is like shooting fish in a barrel that is also made of fish.

I personally think they should legalize most currently illegal drugs and treat them like tobacco and alcohol; regulate and tax the crap out them.
