If the glass melted then it is a pretty safe bet that it
was touched or was not clean to begin with. That is what happens to quartz bulbs with even the slightest amount of oil on it from your skin.
Also, I had to quit selling and installing the SilverStar lamps. They were brighter, but the trade off was a lot shorter life.
