I removed the four top screws and when I tried to pull it off i noticed that the bottom section is fastened and was uncertian how to take it off - I didn't want to pull too hard for fear of breaking it so, what's the trick to remove the the fasteners that hold it on?

You must reach down behind the grill from the top and depress the 4 small tabs that are inserted through slots, one at a time. It's a bit tight, but once you move one, you'll see how it goes.
