These are torquey little engines and will start happily in second. Since the automatics start in second for "W"inter mode, it's probably safe to occasionally start an MT6 that way as well. But stop and think....if this was good for the car, Chrysler would have made it a 5-speed and widened the gear ratios. Therefore I agree that always starting in 2nd puts unnecessary stress on the clutch and may cause early failure. Price a clutch job, just to test your tolerance for pain. If you're having problems slipping in into first (it's not the best shifting car in low gears), try going to 2nd and then to 1st.
