Ive always had good luck by painting them while on. First clean them good with brake cleaner. apply bbq black hi temp paint as a primer. Then apply hi heat engine paint over the primer. To apply the spray paint, spray it into the cap or a cup until you have enough to brush on. small foam brushes and q-tips will get it all. I only do the parts of the caliper that show.
