An FM "transmitter" is a wireless device that works by broadcasting your music/device/iPod at a certain frequency. Most "transmitters" have adjustable frequencies to allow you to pick the best one for your area. To install you simply plug it into a cigarette lighter and connect your device, set your radio to the frequency and hope for the best!
An FM "modulator" is a wired device that works by being connected in-line with your antenna. Good "modulators" actually disconnect your antenna to reduce interference. I installed one of these in my wife's Saab and the results were quite good. The sound quality was just shy of CD audio and the volume is slightly lees than CD's. To install in a Crossfire you'd have to purchase two antenna adapters (plus the FM Mod, obviously). The "modulator" usually has two RCA jacks as input for left and right channels.
Hope it helps.
Cheers!
