The track is a place to test and enjoy the abilities of ANY automobile, without the interference and limitations of our roads and freeways. You learn a lot about your car, it's abilities and it's weaknesses, unfortunately the Xfire has more than we thought and you don't need to go overly fast to find them. One example was braking. The Xfire had the longest stopping distance from 100mph to 0, than most vehicles we have tested and brake fade was significant after multiple stops, nice to know! Sonner or later you're gonna need those brakes to stop you short. There were several other examples of weakness in the 110-120MPH range such as lean and sway, very twitchy, not what we expected. A few months ago we tested an Audi TT and it was in many ways significantly better than the SRT6. Next week we will be testing the new Nissan 350Z, it too will offer an interesting comparison for the money.
Whether the Xfire CAN or CANNOT outperform another vehicle is secondary. Can it compete with cars in a "similar" price range, such as the Corvette, Porsche, etc. The answer appears to be maybe not! Therefore is it worth the money? For those who defend it so vigorously, maybe it is! For those who may consider other cars, maybe it isn't.
Fact almost every ROAD TEST on the SRT6 says it's only faster They all say it's not in the Corvette,Porsche class.SO your friend who bought one "maybe with out a test drive" is miss informed especially sense you are his friend and in your own words have driven all kinds of cars hard at a track DAH ! why didn't you tell him before ?READ the road tests .
As for is it worth $42-3,000,because that's what they're seeling for not MSRP. Well I'd buy one or lease one if it didn't have that wing ,and DC would not put the 3.5 V-6 in the XF.
But looking at prices on new Porsches base 68k but with add options was $82K+.And the new Corvette base is 43K and all are priced with options around 53K.And they're not dealing on either car YET.
