Re: Is this sales-kid right?!
to tell you how bad dealer sales are, in general, about 15 years ago I tried my hand at car sales at a BIG Ford Twin Cities dealership. I was only there 4 months because of middle management. A lady came in wanting an Explorer, after listening to her I advised her to check out a all-wheel drive Chy T and C-met her needs better. Sales mgr livid I let her walk. 3 weeks later I sold 3 Explorers to her neighbors of her small WI town, that they came 50 miles to deal with an honest car salesman.
Last straw was when we had a used car on the lot, it was a good deal and a good car but had sat awhile. Told the customer it had been, he said he'd like to hold it, I said ok since it wasn't selling anyway, got a check from him to hold it, then took it up to the sales mgr. He said that isn't a sale a grabbed it and started schmoozing the customer and telling him it hadn't been on the lot long, lots of people looking at that "loss leader" to which I almost had to leave. The customer took his check back and walked, and I got yelled at for not being able to close a sale. I told him on the floor to stick it, that he was a liar and an unqualified person to be a manager for his ability to be stupid and abusive at the same time. I walked out the door that day to salvage the rest of my Holiday weekend. LOL!!! what a hole that I'll never forget. Mark
