I work in the pits at the start finish line at the Indy 500 and the Camaro was the pace car this year. It is a really fine car. There were three pace cars. Not many of the pace cars sedans are stick shifts and these were 6 speeds. Before the first qualifing they had a parade of 200 Camaro's around the track. They had all five of the Camaro pace cars lined up on the start finish line. It was a beautiful sight. Too bad they wiil never see the light of day in the Speedway trim. In 1969 when the Camaro was the pace car a friend of mine was the guy that kept them tuned up. We would take the car out before the track opened to make sure it ran well. Believe me, it did.
