I hear you on the sliding point. I was driving a '99 SLK for a couple of weeks last month and the seats were identical to the first pic. Nice and firm but did not hold at all. I was sliding all over the place. I would have to say the Alcantara inserts of the SRT seats would be better in general.
Are the bottom side bolsters lower on the SLK? The bolsters on my Limited are too high for my taste-put too much pressure on my legs.
