He claimed that they come from the factory with some sort of protective treatment that works great to protect the plastic for a year or two. By then it has worn off and you may proceed to use a plastic product. But if you use the detailling stuff before that time lapses you strip off all the factory goodness protecting your covers.

Sounds like nonsense to me, but it gave me pause in hitting my new Xfire's lenses with Plastx. Any truth to this claim?
