At the Woodward Dream Cruise last August I met a Chrysler sales director who claimed M-B made them put it on the all the cars, because M-B does not want an "expensive" car leaking oil in the driveway. Remember this is an SLK 320 underneath. On the other hand, I have had a couple discussions on the Audi forum about the belly pan, and they claim it does help with cooling and keeping small stones or other road debris from doing engine or hose damage. Post a WTB on the forum or check junk yards. But as noted, your XF will run fine without it.
