Some people can only relate to what they have experienced in their own lifetime, unfortunately.
Anyone who has seen rusty toilet bowls or calcium-encrusted irons, however, can probably be sympathetic to your issue with water spots. Another solution is to add a water softening system to your home's water supply. Outside of getting used to slimy feeling showers you will have lowered shampoo and laundry soap costs over time...hehe
