As stated in other posts the light should not be on at 1/4 tank full. Testing these systems is a pain in the ar$e so you live with it, fix it yourself or have it fixed.
Doing it yourself requires a reasonably good multimeter that can measure fractions of volts and ohms. The multimeter is good for checking many circuits, and can save you money in the long run.
Check the sending unit by stripping out the trunk lining and the cover over the gas tank. Check the terminals on the connector for fit, corrosion or damage. If you are really adventurous you can take out the unit, it unscrews about 1/3 a turn I think. When it's out you can test the unit as the shop manual says on page 14-12 of the 2004 Shop Manual.
Warning, if you are feeling a bit frustrated having a cigarette is not a good idea at this time.
Check the fuel gauge as outlined on page 8J-8 of the manual.
Additives in the fuel have been known to cause problems with sending units in the past, but not lately. Contaminated fuel is another possibility that can cause problems. Leaving the tank partially empty for long periods can cause corrosion due to moisture, not so likely in a sealed system though.
