I'd go with Garmin. I've done plenty of shopping for friends / family and between TomTom / Garmin..

I've always come back to Garmin. Their interface is the simplest, intuitive, and easiest to use. You can find good good deals on refurbed units or new units if you don't buy from the garmin / best buy stores, etc.
