Default Replacing the Fuel Filter

Ok so I want to replace the fuel filter on my XF. Not as simple as many of the cars I've had before so calling on the experience of everyone here...

Couple of questions:

  • http://homepage.mac.com/gregmeach/XFire/Xfire_Repair_14-FuelSys.pdf Note, this link explains the maintenance and repair procedure for anything associated with fuel on the XF. My question is this: Is it possible to release the pressure in the system without a DRB IIIT scan tool and is it possible to do it without throwing Diagnostic errors. Note that step seven of the procedure is this 7. One or more Diagnostic Trouble Codes may have been stored in PCM memory due to fuel pump fuse removal. The DRB IIIT scan tool must be used to erase a DTC
  • If it does throw errors how do I remove them without the scan tool?
  • Major dumb question...after instalation is there a 're-pressurising' procedure or is it just hook everything back up and the fuel pump does the rest?
  • And finally, is a generic filter (say a ryco z626) as good as OEM fuel filter. Should I stick with OEM here or would it make no difference.
Any advice would be greatly appriciated Thanks Heaps!
