SLK32Krazy answered the other questions great, but the tranny "hanging up" is normal.

Under "spirited driving", the tranny will stay in gear and hold it until it feels is the best time to shift. If you want to make it go into the next gear, you can bump the shifter over and override. It is odd at first, but once you get used to it you grow to really appreciate this transmissions in these cars.
