I've been wearing a seatbelt in every car I drive or ride in ever since 1963 when the "Feds" made the manufacturers install them as standard equiptment.
One of my favorite Uncles died in 1962 when he lost control of his Cadilliac at a high rate of speed (after crossing a severe dip in the road, by a bridge). The car launched itself 20' in the air after climbing a guardrail, and landed nose first in a 3' deep swamp, winding up on it's roof.
He went through the windshield, and they later found him "under" the car.
