My first thought after studying the manual is that it would be the power seat relay, this appears to be activated by the door open switch. If it was stuck or the contacts burnt then the motors could see no power, stuck the other way the seats would operate with the doors open or closed. Sticky relays can result in the intermittent operation of the components that they operate.
