Default Flahing light coming from within steering column

I've just picked up a 2004 Crossfire in the UK. I'm really enjoying the car and am finding it far more enjoyable to drive than the Mitsubishi FTO I owned before.

However, I have one thing that I can't work out about it! There is a mystery flashing red light coming from within(!) the steering column. I can see it when the wheel is turned to the right on the right hand side of the steering column. I can find no mention in the manual and to be honest I can think of no reason why any form of warning light would be put in such a difficult to notice position!

The only thing I can think of is that it is something to do with the Traffic Master/RAC tracker that the previous owner had installed.

I don't suppose anyone out there can shed any light (pardon the pun!) on this??
