I swapped mine out for a pair of 12 SMD white panels. When I did, I found that if I removed (pulled stright down on) the little diffusers inside, it revealed the lamps and I did not have to remove the whole fixture.
Just an observation.
Max, I tired that the first go around and I couldn't get the light bulbs out through the hole.
They were lost on top until I figured out how to remove the fixture.
If you can get the lights out just right, then you won't have to take the whole assembly out, but I have big fat fingers!
