I have a Saturn Ion Redline. The manual recommends an oil meeting GM Spec 4718M. There are like 7 diffrent oils that meet that spec. All of which are 5w-30 weight oils. That's what I run and I just don't worry about it. It works and it lubes the engine.
Actually, a lot of thought and engineering
did go into the
FSS, if you are inclined at all to use it. It is calibrated to measure contaminants in
Mobil1 0-40W, weighed against your driving habits, and determine your next service interval. See the Sticky under the Technical & Modifications Forum.
It is a fairly sophisticated feature if you choose to use it. Or not.
