I know exactly what the OP is referring to.

My 2007 XF's windshield surround oxidized and my car only has 5700 miles on it. I garage keep it 24/7 and rarely ever let it sit out in the sun.

It's a part that got a crappy paintjob from the factory and needs to be replaced under warranty.
