Default Re: Your very first car...driving/owning

My first car was a 1951 Ford convertible I bought with a friend for $50.00. No title, just a rustbucket with a smoky flat head six and a rotted top. We didn't know a rear axle bearing flange from a set of breaker points, but had decided we could fix it up and share it . We got the engine running with help from his dad, the 3 speed tranny was fine, the body was all bondo when we were done, and had it in rattle can primer. Seats were cheap covers from JC Whitney held on with duct tape.

That's when my mom found out I wasn't studying & doing homework at Glenn's house. She also found my lawn mowing money was gone. Into the Ford. Glenn borrowed $25.00 from his dad and gladly bought me out.

I was 13 at the time.
That same summer about 6 miles away, the St Louis Chevy plant was building my 1960, Black with red leather interrior, 348 Impala convertible. But I wouldn't own it until 1968 and two cars later.
