I tend to think your guy used a paint rather than a dye since plastic can't be dyed like leather.
I didn't watch all they did, but it was all a multi-step process. Certainly not the same material on the leather and other parts. Perhaps more like a stain on the other parts. It sure looks good whatever the process.

I think my resale value went back up to near MSRP on my Crossfirarri LOL
