Some early 6MT's have synchro issues. Test the shifter on the car, shift from 3rd to 2nd, 4th to 2nd, 1st to 2nd, and try shifting directly from neutral to 2nd.
2nd gear should always be easy to engage. 1st gear lockout should prevent you from entering 1st gear at any speed above 8-10mph.
What car are you driving? 2nd gear seems to be the hardest to engage sometimes. It's a common problem actually with the crossfire, you just have to muscle it in sometimes.
