From a pragmatic standpoint, there is nothing at all wrong with using 5W40 synthetic oil, but just keep in mind that the Crossfire's FSS (Flexible Service System) is engineered to function with 0W40 viscosity Mobil1 oil. Have a look at the Sticky in the Tech/Mods Forum to read all about it.

If you intend to live by the FSS, stick with the Mobil1 0W40. Beyond that, a GOOD 5W40 synthetic will offer all the protection you could ever ask for. It's up to you.
