Re: Rotrex Guy
I can tell you Web that I am one of the longest running members of this forum, as you can see by my join date. I was also pretty good friends with the one guy who swapped an srt-6 motor into his n/a 6 speed, HDDP. I also worked with a company to bring new tuning software (the 'newness" was a large debatable heated drama event, but I regress).
You are not the first person with knowledge or tools that has tried to tackle this task. You also aren't the first to throw some money at it. I am not saying that you can't do it, but the spyder is a completely different car, doesn't have anywhere near the type of ecu issues we have and has a ton of boosting options. There was one supposed twin turbo base crossfire built by a company called aps, if I recall correctly, who disappeared after putting up pics of the car. Another company was said to undergo the same project, but ended up ripping people off, another situation in which I helped community members by leading a virtual crusade to get people their money back, lol.
I would say there have been 6 serious attempts at this, and they all either quit or disappeared. HDDP through a ton of money at this car and worked with some of the best ecu engineers around to tune this car and try and figure it out, as well as working with people who actually built these ecu's and software, again I believe memory serves me correct.
I don't know if derek, hddp, is still around or not, but you should contact him. I know he had left to work on some t.v. show, but im sure he checks in every now and then, he campaigned his crossfire in NASA events for years taking several trophies.
Good luck, but don't burn bridges or assume you know things, because every car is different, and mercedes is notorious for having difficult ecu's to crack. I pissed off a bunch of people in my day just telling it how it is, but didn't assume I knew more than everyone. People here have spent years with this car, you may end up needing their help one day. Members here will help you literally as much as possible when it comes to boosting this car because we have all been dying to do it.
I believe Kleeman still sells a kit for this motor, you may also want to try and get in touch with them. All said, good luck, I wish you the best. I've been waiting for someone to put out a kit so i could grab another crossfire, since they are almost free now, and I don't really want a super high power dd these days since I have the track car. Good luck!!
