I don't agree completely with this, as I think as a phone it performs great! I have no issues with it although I don't do a lot of "talking" these days. Most of my communication is via texting. They do need to add some features like MMS to it. It pains me that I cannot take a pic and text it to someone. Ugh........Apparently though, this is in the works?? Oh yeah, that's the other thing it's been missing the whole time. MMS. How the heck does a phone that can take pictures but not video (again until the 3G S) and play music not have MMS. It's like what can we leave out so we can get these fanboys to upgrade a year from now. LOL
As for being a phone, the speaker is quieter than a church mouse and the microphone while good at picking up your voice, is also good at picking up an over abundance of background noise. And sending a text is less than enjoyable because you can't use teh good old T9 which was designed for texting. If I want to send an email, I'll do that but when I send a text, it's usually short, to the point and when I'm busy doing something else and it's a pain for me.
