Since Fontana is the only 1/4 mile track within reasonable distance to most of SoCal, yep. They start lining up early and allow a max of 400 cars in. I have been number 398 once.

For serious fun though, follow what others have said here and what I have stated many times before - take your car to a road course. Yes, the NASA HPDE (High Performance Driving Experience) days run about $155 or $250 for a weekend, but you get 4 sessions of 20 minutes each with an instructor. You learn a lot about what your car can do not only with your right foot planted, but with both feet working three pedals while your right hand changes gear. And your steering wheel cranked beyond 90 degrees. It's waaaay more fun that zipping along in a straight line for a few seconds.

Willow Springs, Buttonwillow and the road course at California Speedway are all fun, interesting and very different circuits.
