Someone told me today that if the airbags deploy then insurance companies write the car off rather than risk some future lawsuit if replaced airbags dont function on a future crash.

Anyone have any knowledge of this?

Dont want to put him down as he's only done 14000miles

I am not an insurance adjuster, but the cost of replacing the airbags is extremely high. That may be the reason why the insurance companies will total car. The driver's steering wheel airbag cost around $1000. The door airbags are approximately $700. Plus when the door airbags deploy you need to replace the entire door panel which will cost tanother $7-$800. I have no clue how much the dashboard airbag would cost, although $7-$800 would probably be in the ballpark. Then of course you have the cost of replacing the dashboard itself. Not to mention all of the labor charges involved with any repairs associated with the airbags. Not mentioned the cost of a new bumper etc. etc. etc.

On the bright side is your car is totaled, and you are able to purchase it directly from the insurance company you can go on he ebay emboli most all of the airbags and put them in yourself along with the door pad.

Good luck
