Actually it will fit in many batteries, it stops any overflowing acid from leaking out of the battery. If it's a bit loose wrap Teflon tape around it.
It fits in the hole in the top of the front face of your battery, its a vent hole. They will also have a vent hole in the rear face as well.
When you dump your OEM battery take out the plug in the rear hole and the vent trap shown above and install them in your new battery. If you have these vent holes you should use them. If you have seen corrosion around and on your battery tray these should prevent it in future. Any vented acid is trapped in this gadget and evaporates.
