Exhaust damage shouldn't be that big of deal unless it caused damage at the engine. But there are too many unknowns to be able to provide an answer.

1. How much damage was done?...i.e. post some photos of the damage.
2. Your real concern should be repairs to the bumper and under carriage.
3. Is your insurance company directing you to a particular body shop? If so, you need to find a better insurance agency. It most likely won't be repaired to your long term satisfaction.
