Default Re: aftermarket warranty

Normally I am not one to purchase any extended warranties but my cousin, who was a manager for a MB dealership suggested getting one due to the high cost of any repairs for a Mercedes (which would also apply to the Crossfire).
I have an extended warranty on my Mercedes C240 administered by Mercury Insurance (6 years or 100K miles). I opted for the platinum policy – $0 deductible and an exclusion only list of what they won’t cover. Four years ago I purchased the policy for about $1600 (Mercedes wanted $3300 for a policy with a $100 deductible). I can take the car to the dealer or any other repair shop. They call the claims number directly to get verification the problem is covered and they get a credit card payment directly from Mercury when they complete the repair. The policy has paid out over $4000 in repairs over the last 4 years without a problem. My SRT will be running out of warranty in February and will be purchasing the same Platinum policy from Mercury for $1800.
I purchased my original policy from one of the internet brokers but they no longer carry the Mercury policy. I found out that they changed their marketing through Credit Unions only, and that is where I received the $1800 quote about 2 weeks ago.
