Re: Black Box by Turtle Wax
I've not tried it, but everything I know about it indicates it does a great job at filling in swirls and other light defects. But I also hear that the clarity isn't really that great, and that the noticeable improvement everyone raves about is simply due to the fact that it's hiding swirls. That's all well and good, but I'd rather eliminate them completely first.
As for application, according to their website it can be applied by hand, orbital or rotary. Honestly, rotary application really surprises me and their instructions for doing so are kind of odd. They say to use a rotary with a max speed of 1500rpm but it doesn't say what speed to actually apply it at. That really bothers me, as I'd be hesitant to apply any wax that fast. In fact, their website has much more in depth instructions for hand application than it does for rotary application. Honestly, that really should be the other way around!!
But all of this stuff about waxes is highly subjective. You can ask 10 people what they're favorite wax is and you'll get 10 different answers. There's plenty of really good stuff on the market - probably more good than really bad, truth be told. But the ONLY company who's product line disappoints me across the board is Turtle Wax. Black Box is about the only product of theirs I have not used personally, but nothing else impressed me in the least. Black is so much harder to get looking really right.
