This was my first trip to Barrett, and it was exciting, both inside and out.
We got there Thur morning, (all flights behind us were canceled), and by night time the weather was really moving in. We decided to leave the auction about 6:45. The whole tent roof was moving up and down about 4 to 6 feet, it looked like an ocean. You could hear all the aluminum beams creaking and occasionally the loud "pop" of beam bolts breaking. All I could think of was the Dallas training tent coming down earlier this year. We must of missed the evacuation by only 20 mins.
The Russo and Steele Car Auction across the street wasn't as lucky. Their tent came down and blew pieces across the interstate, shutting it all down. No one was injured but a million+ in damages. There were two tornados in the area that night, one about 15 mins away.
The second day had much better weather, but I still had to scrape the ice off the rental car with my room key card in the morning.
Here's the ABC write-up on
tent collapse.
