Sure, I would agree with you on the cost of the SC, and I have thought about that more than once.

I would contend however that the rate of SC failures are no more of a systemic problem than other cars with superchargers. The 3.2 SC AMG engine has proven to be a very reliable engine in the SLK32 and the C32 over the years and there is no doubt in my mind that it will carry the same legacy with the SRT. Remember, this was an old and proven engine before Chrysler/Diamler ever concieved of the idea for a supercharged Crossfire.
